1834 to 1916 The home of pioneer physician, scientist, and horticulturist, Dr. Francis Joseph Kron, sits on a picturesque hillside in Morrow Mountain State Park.
Morrow Mountain State Park in Stanly County is in the heart of the Uwharrie Mountains along the shores of the Yadkin/Pee Dee River. Generous land gifts were made by James M. Morrow and the citizens of Stanly County. Making it the third oldest N.C. State Park, construction was staffed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935.
Hike the trails, view the scenic vistas, visit historic buildings and the Nature Museum. Explore the Uwharrie's rich archeological, and cultural heritage. Morrow Mountain's store know as rhyoliye, was prized by American Indians. It was actively quarried, knapped and shaped into Stone Age tools and spear points at least 12,000 years ago. These First Carolinians made this area the home long before European settlements in the 1700's.
